The Self-Publishing Stigma

Lets talk about it.  For all you new self-published Authors do you find this stigma is hard to get past?

How about being able to join Literacy groups?  Some tell us we can only sign up as an Associate member or Friend.  The only way to be a full member is to be a published Author through a traditional publishing company.

Good news though from The Writer's Union of Canada.  In a unanimous vote, TWUC members approved a resolution to admit professional, self-published authors to the Union.  This is a big step in the future of self-published writers.

"The resolution allows for self-published books as professional credit toward membership, as long as three important criteria are met. Self-published books presented by authors applying to join the Union must contain an International Standard Book Number (ISBN), must demonstrate commercial intent, and must be peer reviewed before being forwarded to the membership committee of the Union for approval based on existing criteria."  (Press Release from Writer's Union of Canada website:  http://www.writersunion.ca/news/writers-union-canada-votes-admit-self-published-authors
