What a great day it is! It's Friday, so that's always a great day for us Monday to Friday workers. It is a so nice outside today and sunny. Sunday is Mother's Day. I may not be able to home with any of my family for another week yet, but today in my mail box at work, surprise surprise was a card. The card was from my wonderful husband wishing me a Happy Mother's Day. It arrived just in time. We are meeting at the airport next week and going out for dinner and a show. Inuvik, here in the Northwest Territories, has no movie theatre so I am really looking forward to going out. I heard the movie Oblivion is really good and the new Star Trek movie will be out also. Ahhhh! which movie do I pick to go see first?
I am not the kind of person who can sit still for long. I need to be doing something or boredom sets in. Another reason why my dogs are so great. They keep me busy. This being said, the last two times I have been back up to Inuvik, I have volunteered somewhere with a friend to help out and keep busy. This time it was at a bingo to help raise money for the local food bank. The last trip I helped out at Arctic Paws. What a great cause this is for this region. It is a new program with a travelling Vet who comes to town and helps with a Spay and Neuter program for dogs. They also do some other minor surgeries, give vaccines, etc. The very cool part was that I got help out in the recovery room. This means that as a puppy/dog came out of the operating room following his/her surgery, he was wrapped in a blanket and handed to me. Then I was to hold him and keep him warm and help him to come out of the anesthetic so he could eventually go home with his owners. What a great job this was. I got to hold and cuddle different dogs for hours. This was way more personable and not so shocking for the dog when he woke up. Although, there were a few grumpy one's, for good reason, and one little tiny guy woke up and would not stop yelping. Poor thing was so scared. Once he was fully out of the anesthetic he calmed down and just wanted to sleep. This group does more than just the Vet visits. It is locally managed and organized and the funds to pay for the clinic are raised with bingo's, other activities, and donations. Great cause, job well done!
As for my looking forward to new adventures of my own once retired, you should know that while swimming with sharks and logger head turtles or climbing a pyramid is a spectacular adventure for me, so is taking a wrong turn while driving and ending up miles out of my way in unfamiliar territory. These times often turn into an adventure of there own. Or should I say finding my way back tends to be the adventure, lol. I have to tell you that I was majorly disappointed when I figured out that my Children's book was not going to be ready for me to have copies of before we left for Europe. I had planned on taking ten of the books with me and would leave one in each country or city we visited with the hope that a family would read it and pass it along. I laughed to myself and told my hubby that by doing this I could officially tell people my books went International. So now I had to come up with another idea. Being in Europe is just to much of an opportunity to pass up. It's not like I can just come back in a month. So, after a lot of thought, I decided that I must make at least one friend in each location where we were going to. If they are willing to give me their address, I will mail them one of the books when I get back home. But they need to promise that they will read the book to their children and within a few weeks they must then pass the book onto another friend or relative and so on and so and so on. If these people also give me their email addresses, I can let them know about my website when it is up and tell them when my next book comes out (hopefully at Christmas) so they can check it out online. If they choose to buy it, that is totally up to them. If not at least I will know that my first book is out there and being enjoyed by some young child somewhere. That alone is very gratifying.
I guess I should tell you where we are travelling to, just in case we cross paths. We are in Rome for five nights, Sicily for four nights, Venice for two nights, then cruising to Croatia, Greece and Turkey, then it's off to Oberstaufen, Germany for 7 nights, then home. I sure wish we could see more of Europe, maybe some day. We just do not have enough time on this trip, or money to be honest. Like everyone there are so many places in this world that we want to see. I know we are missing out on so much in Europe but that alone is reason enough to save to go back again.
So what do you think of my passing around my books idea? Good or Bad? Tell me your thoughts? I will be back tomorrow....Tori
